Safari Overview

This 15-day itinerary showcases the very best of Uganda – from remote savannahs in the north to ancient rainforests in the south. Expect diverse wildlife (lions, elephants, leopards, buffalo, giraffes), primate encounters (chimps & mountain gorillas), scenic crater country around Fort Portal, cultural immersion with the Karimojong and local communities, and excellent photographic stops.

Detailed Itinerary (Realistic Timings – Start: Entebbe)

Day 1 – Arrival in Entebbe

06:00–08:00 – Arrival at Entebbe International Airport. Meet & greet with your Miana guide.

08:30–12:00 – Transfer to your accommodation / optional half-day Entebbe city tour (Botanical Gardens, Reptile Village, Lakefront).

12:00–18:00 – Rest, lodge orientation and welcome dinner.

Day 2 – Drive to Kidepo Valley National Park

06:00–07:00 – Early breakfast & depart north from Entebbe.

07:00–23:00 – Long scenic drive to Kidepo with comfort stops (expect a full travel day; arrival late evening). The journey crosses varied landscapes and small towns.

Day 3 — Full-Day Game Drive & Hot Springs

06:00–17:00 — All-day game drive across Narus Valley and Kanangorok areas. Packed lunch in the field. Visit Kanangorok Hot Springs for photos & short walk.

Day 4 — Nature Walk & Karimojong Cultural Visit

07:00–10:00 — Guided nature walk with armed ranger (Narus Valley or Lomej trail).

14:00–17:00 — Afternoon cultural visit to a Karimojong community (traditional homesteads, dances, beadwork).

Day 5 — Transfer to Murchison Falls National Park

06:00–07:00 — Breakfast & depart Kidepo.

07:00–18:00 — Drive south via Gulu with stops at Aruu Falls and for lunch; arrive Murchison late afternoon. Short visit to Top of the Falls at sunset.

Day 6 — Morning Game Drive & Boat Cruise

06:00–09:00 — Early morning game drive for predators, giraffes, elephants and antelopes.

13:00–15:30 — Afternoon boat cruise upstream to the base of Murchison Falls (hippos, crocodiles, waterbirds).

Day 7 — Drive to Kibale (Fort Portal / Crater Region)

07:00–12:30 — Scenic drive to Fort Portal with lunch en route; transfer to lodge near Kibale in the afternoon.

Day 8 — Chimp Tracking & Crater Biking

07:30–11:30 — Chimpanzee tracking in Kibale Forest (3–4 hours including briefing & debrief).

14:00–17:00 — Afternoon bike ride around the crater lakes with photo stops & tea plantation views.

Day 9 — Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park

08:00–10:00 — Drive from Kibale to Queen Elizabeth (approx. 2 hrs).

15:30–18:30 — Evening game drive across Kasenyi Plains.

Day 10 — Game Drive & Kazinga Channel Boat Cruise

06:00–09:00 — Morning game drive for predators & early bird activity.

14:30–16:30 — 2-hour boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel (high hippo concentrations, waterbirds).

Day 11 — Drive to Ishasha Sector (Tree-Climbing Lions)

08:00–12:00 — Transfer to Ishasha sector; stop for lunch.

16:00–19:00 — Evening game drive focused on locating tree-climbing lions & viewing other megafauna.

Day 12 — Drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

07:30–12:30 — Scenic drive into the Kigezi Highlands, crossing terraced hills & dramatic landscapes.

14:00–17:00 — Arrive Bwindi, check-in & optional community visit.

Day 13 — Gorilla Trekking (Bwindi)

06:00–07:00 — Early breakfast & transfer to park offices for briefing.

07:30–14:30 — Gorilla trek (2–8 hours depending on movement). Enjoy the full 1-hour encounter when gorillas are located.

Day 14 — Drive to Lake Mburo National Park & Evening Game Drive

07:30–12:30 — Drive to Mbarara for lunch; short transfer to Lake Mburo.

17:00–18:30 — Evening game drive in Lake Mburo (zebra herds, elands, hippos & birdlife).

Day 15 — Morning Nature Walk & Return to Entebbe (Departure)

06:30–08:00 — Guided nature walk in Lake Mburo with an armed ranger.

09:00–15:00 — Drive to Entebbe with a stop at the Equator Monument for photos and light refreshments.

15:00 onwards — Arrival in Entebbe & airport drop-off according to flight schedule.

Important Notes & Practical Information

Chimp & Gorilla Trekking Rules

  • Minimum age: 12 years for chimps; 15 years for gorillas.
  • Treks are physically demanding – good fitness recommended.
  • Visitors with communicable illnesses may be restricted from trekking.
  • Maximum viewing time with gorillas / chimps: 1 hour.

Packing Recommendations

  • Lightweight rain poncho, long-sleeved shirts & waterproof hiking shoes.
  • Gardening-type gloves for gorilla trekking, waterproof trousers.
  • Sunscreen, insect repellent, wide-brim hat, binoculars & camera with spare batteries.
  • Personal medication, chargers & a small daypack.

Visas, Best Time & Safety

Both Uganda and Rwanda provide electronic visa services – apply several days ahead. Best visiting months are June – September and December – February.
