Day-by-Day Itinerary (Start: Nairobi)

Day 1 — Arrival to Nairobi & Welcome

Arrive at Nairobi Jomo Kenyatta Airport. Transfer to your boutique hotel in the Karen area (near Ngong Hills) for check-in and a welcome briefing.

Evening: Welcome dinner and safari orientation with your Miana guide.

Overnight: Karen Blixen Coffee Garden & Cottages (or similar) — Meals: Dinner

Day 2 — Nairobi → Masai Mara (Great Rift Valley View)

Morning: Depart after breakfast and drive across the Great Rift Valley. Stop at the escarpment viewpoint for photos of the Rift Valley.

Afternoon: Arrive in the Masai Mara Conservancy / Reserve for an introductory game drive en route to camp/lodge. Evening at leisure.

Overnight: Governors’ Camp (Luxury) • Mara Sopa Lodge (Mid-range) — Meals: Full board

Day 3 — Full-Day Game Drives in Masai Mara

Spend a full day exploring the Mara’s sweeping plains. Early morning and late-afternoon drives maximize predator activity and soft photographic light. Picnic lunch at a scenic spot (often near the Mara River during migration season).

Expect sightings of lions, cheetahs, leopards, elephants, buffaloes and large migrating herds depending on season.

Overnight: Same as Day 2 — Meals: Full board

Day 4 — Optional Balloon Safari & Maasai Cultural Visit

Pre-dawn option: Hot-air balloon flight over the Mara (optional, additional cost) followed by a champagne bush breakfast — a unique photographic perspective.

Late morning / afternoon: Visit a local Maasai village to learn about pastoral life, beadwork and traditional dances. Evening game drive or relax at camp.

Overnight: Same as Day 2 — Meals: Full board

Day 5 — Further Game Drives & Migration Viewing

Another full day in the Mara to pursue the migration and predator action. Your guide will choose locations based on recent sightings — river crossings, predator interactions and wide-open plains.

Overnight: Same as Day 2 — Meals: Full board

Day 6 — Early Game Drive → Return to Nairobi / Depart

Early morning: Final short game drive to catch early predator activity.

Midday: Return to camp for checkout and depart back to Nairobi. Arrive in the afternoon for airport transfer or onward accommodation.

End of tour.Meals: Breakfast (and picnic lunch en route if required)


Practical Information & Tips

  • Best time to visit: June–October and December–March for peak migration and dry-season visibility.
  • Clothing: Neutral-colour layers, warm jacket for early mornings, hat, sunglasses and good walking shoes.
  • Health: Malaria prophylaxis recommended; ensure routine vaccinations and travel insurance with medical evacuation cover (AMREF included).
  • Photography: Telephoto lens (200–400mm+) recommended for wildlife; dawn/dusk light is best.
